The Inauguration of English Literary Association

The Inaugural function of English Literary Association for the PG & Research Department of English was held at Thiruvalluvar Government Arts College, Rasipuram at 10.am on 23-07-2018, Monday. The experienced and the retired Professor of English from Salem Sowdeswari College, Dr.A.Sreerangan declared open the various activities of the club. In his inaugural speech, he stressed the importance of English in the present day scenario. Moreover, he honestly wanted all the students to work hard to come up in life. Above all, he wanted everyone to be a real human being.

The HoD of English, Prof. A.Muthukumar delivered the introductory address and mentioned the various clubs with their staff co-ordinators and student secretary members. The Principal, Dr. S.Manimegalai delivered her presidential address and wished the Dept of English to do more activities in future. Both D.A.Sreerangan, The Chief Guest and Dr. S.Manimegalai, the Principal offered the Hindu papers, which were bought for the students with subsidised rates to all the 230 students who are studying English Literature at the college. Dr.T.Ramakrishnan, welcomed the gathering and Dr.S.Kumaran proposed the vote of thanks.

The valedictory function of English Language Association

The valedictory function of English Language Association was conducted at Thiruvalluvar Govt Arts College, Rasipuram. The Chief Guest was Dr.Malliga Ramasamy, Dean-Academic, English Vivekananda College of Arts and sciences for women(Autonomous), Tiruchencode. She delivered a wonderful lecture on Post Colonialism followed by distribution of various prizes for the students who actively participated and achieved in various competitions like Vocal-Solo and Vocal-Group, Dance Solo and Group, Book-Review, Poetry Writing, Oratorical and Essay Writing, Origamy and Debate. Moreover she advised the students to speak in English at all times among themselves to improve their knowledge of English. In addition to the current students, the out gone students who stood first were also felicitated. The Principal, Dr.S.Manimegalai presided over the function and the annual report was read out by Dr.P.Mythily, HoD of English. Many cultural events were enacted by the students at the end.

PG & Research Department of English, Thiruvalluvar Government Arts College, Rasipuram inaugurated the activities of the English Literary Association and its affiliated clubs on 30 July, 2017. Dr.V.Suganthi, Assistant Professor of English and ELA Coordinator welcomed the gathering. Dr. S.Manimegalai, Principal, Thiruvalluvar Government Arts College, Rasipuram delivered the presidential address. Dr.P.Mythily, Associate Professor of English and Head, introduced the Chief Guest. The Chief Guest Dr.Pearl Kittu, Former Reader in English, NKR Government Arts College, Namakkal inaugurated the function by lighting the sacred lamp and administered oath to the incumbent office bearers. She distributed copies of the Hindu newspaper to the office bearers. Her inaugural speech followed which was interspersed with wit and humor. As a seasoned scholar and an experienced teacher she gave many functional and practical guidelines to improve the communication skill which was well received by the students and the scholars. The Chief Guest’s mind blowing words inspired the young hearts of English Literature. To add spice to the event a “Tableau” and “Mono Acting” were performed by the students’ which garnered the attention of the audience. Dr.T.Ramakrishnan, Assistant Professor of English and former ELA Coordinator proposed the vote of thanks. The function came to end with the singing of the National Anthem.

Valedictory Function of the English Literary Association is held on 27.02.2020. Dr.K.Pungothai, Associate Professor and Head, Department of English, Government Arts College for Women, Salem is the Chief Guest and she addressed the students on the topic Cinderella Skills for Second Language Learning. Further, the prize winners of various competitions are honoured with certificates and mementoes.
