 Sesqui Centennial Celebration of Mahathma Gandhiji’s Birth


Under the auspices of English Literary Association of PG &Research Department of English, Thiruvalluvar Government Arts College, Rasipuram Sesqui centennial celebration of Gandhiji’s birth was conducted on 30 September, 2019 in the Seminar Hall. To mark the birth of the Mahathma saplings were planted in the college campus. After offering floral tribute to our Father of our Nation, the function commenced with the singing of Tamil Thai vazhthu. Welcome address was delivered by ELA Secretary Ms. Vaishnavi of II.M.A. Class. The Principal Dr.S.Manimegalai addressed the gathering highlighting the deep moral values of the noble soul. The Head of the Department Dr.P.Mythily congratulated the students and the members of the staff for organizing the Programme. She recalled the influencers of the Mahathma and how women were exhorted to participate in the freedom struggle movement obliterating gender discrimination. The speaker of the day  Mr.A. Athiappan, Assistant Professor of English, in his speech encouraged the young minds to become the heroes and be role models for others as Gandhiji and other great national leaders. Mr. SADANAND, Principal of Sri Vidhya Mandir, special invitee narrated the life experiences of the Mahathma which motivated him to launch ahimsa as a weapon against the Britishers. He distributed peanut balls to all the students. The cultural events by the students enthralled the audience and gave a glimpse of the important events in the life of Bapu. The program came to an end with the singing of the National Anthem.

SAPLINGS PLANTATION

    PG & Research Department of English , Thiruvalluvar Government College, Rasipuram and Namakkal Highway Department are involved in planting saplings along the roadsides. Roadside sapling planting program was held at Namakkal Salem Road Ponnagar. Dr.P. Mythily, Associate Professor & Head, PG & Research Department of English,  Department Professors, Mr. A. Muthukumar, Dr. B. Shyamaladevi, Dr. V. Suganthi, Dr. P.K.Gomathi,  English Department students attended and planted saplings. The event was attended by highway road inspectors Lakshmi Prabha, Ravi and the public.
